Notes Taken is reader-supported. Some links to retailers are affiliate links: if you buy after clicking, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never influence which fragrances we recommend or the order retailers are shown in, which is always by total price. We only display prices we have verified with the retailer, and we show the cheapest verified option even when it is not an affiliate link.

What we collect

Your email address when you create an account; your quiz answers; optional birth date, time and place (used only to calculate your chart); your readings, wishlist, owned collection and bag.

How we use it

To create and save your fragrance recommendations and daily readings. Quiz answers, calculated chart placements and, for members, relevant saved fragrances and previous recommendations are sent through Lovable AI to an AI provider to write your matches. Follow-up messages and the current reading are also processed when you ask a question. Avoid including sensitive information in free-text answers. We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising.

Your choices

From your Account page you can remove birth details from your profile and saved readings. This also removes charts, personal explanations, free-text quiz answers and conversations because those may contain birth information; fragrance selections are retained. Account deletion closes your sign-in account and removes its profile, readings, conversations and saved fragrance lists. Finish any active reading before deleting. Contact messages are separate: contact us to request their removal.

Retention and deletion limits

Member readings and lists remain until you delete them or close your account. Guest readings and saved lists remain in this browser until moved into an account or browser site data is cleared. Clearing site data also removes locally saved guest birth details. Deletion from the live service does not promise immediate removal from infrastructure backups or provider records; backup retention and any legal retention obligations still require confirmation before launch.

Our current recommendation model uses a zero-data-retention inference endpoint. Operational usage records may still be retained by the platform. A future provider or model change requires a fresh privacy review; we do not promise that AI processing happens in Australia.

Cookies and storage

We use essential browser storage to keep you signed in, remember country and currency, and hold guest readings and fragrance lists. A signed, essential guest cookie lasts up to 30 days and identifies this browser for a five-reading rolling 24-hour allowance; clearing cookies resets that anonymous identity. Guest and member requests have server-side identifiers, timestamps and processing status to prevent simultaneous or duplicate charges. Guest usage records do not contain quiz answers, birth details, results or IP addresses. Optional anonymous usage counting is off by default. If enabled in the footer, we store only UTC daily totals for discovery starts, fragrance views, searches, reactions, list additions, comparison additions and retailer/sample outbound clicks. We do not store visitor identifiers, search text, fragrance selections, birth information or account details in these counters. These non-personal aggregate totals remain for historical reporting. Disable the footer switch to stop future counting; past anonymous totals cannot be associated with or removed for an individual. These counts are not unique visitors, sales or commissions. No paid advertising trackers are installed. Retailers may set their own cookies when you visit them through our links.
